How to Switch Your Instagram Account from Personal to Business

How to Switch Your Instagram Account from Personal to Business

So, you’ve been using Instagram for your business (smart move!), but you’ve been working with that personal profile up until now. Don’t worry – it happens! But it’s time for you to make the switch to a business profile so you can tap into all the extra perks Instagram has available. Think analytics, promotions, and easier ways to connect with potential customers. Let’s get you switched over in a few easy steps!

Step 1: Open Instagram and Head to Your Profile

First, open the Instagram app and head to your profile. You know, the little icon in the bottom right with your photo or logo.

Step 2: Tap the Three Lines (The Menu)

At the top right corner of your profile, you’ll see those three little lines stacked on top of each other, also known as the menu button. Tap it!

Step 3: Go to Settings

Once you’re in the menu, scroll down and tap on “Settings.”  This is where all the magic happens.

Step 4: Tap “Account”

In the Settings menu, scroll once more until you find “Account

Step 5: Select “Switch to Professional Account”

Scroll down a bit, and you’ll see an option that says, “Switch to Professional Account.” Tap it to start the process. Instagram will then prompt you to choose between a “Business” or “Creator” account. For businesses, we recommend going with “Business” (unless you’re a full-time influencer or creator, in which case, the “Creator” option might be better for you).

Step 6: Choose Your Business Category

Instagram will now ask you to pick a category that best describes your business. You can choose from a variety of options – whether you’re a restaurant, retail store, service provider, or something else. Don’t worry, you can update this later if you feel like it doesn’t fit perfectly.

Step 7: Add Your Business Info

Next up, Instagram is going to ask you for your contact info. You’ll want to input your business email, phone number, and/or physical location so customers can easily reach you. This is your chance to let your followers know how to connect with your business in a more direct way.

Step 8: Hit Done

Once you’ve added all of your information, hit “Done.” Congratulations! You’re now officially on Instagram as a business, with access to all the analytics, ads, and professional tools that come with it.

Step 9: Start Using Business Features

Now that you’ve officially made the switch, you can start taking advantage of all the helpful features Instagram offers to businesses. Track how your post performs with insights, run targeted ads, create product catalogs, and so much more.
